Arctic Voyage: the self-paced online course for mixed-media texture art (video course)

An Arctic Ocean is such a fascinating world, isn’t it? A world most of us don’t experience in person because it’s so far away. Now you can create your own Arctic Ocean – and hang it in one of your favourite places. Then, whenever you like, you can travel there in an instant.

Because that’s exactly what you’ll do if you feel the same way we and other artists do: You’ll fall in love. You’ll admire your artwork again and again – because the Arctic Ocean effect looks so real. And your Arctic Ocean will become your great love!

Are you ready for love, ready for your Arctic Ocean?

What you’ll take with you on your Arctic Voyage – the theory in the video course

Mixed media in a new form, as mixed-media texture art. A journey that takes you through different materials to your destination: your Arctic Ocean.

You’ll work with the texture materials resiCRETE and XL CRACKLE PASTE, as well as sprays, resin and encaustic wax. And it’s not just the materials that are different. You’ll also use different application techniques: spreading, spraying, pouring and brushing – to make sure it truly becomes an Arctic Ocean.

Before you start creating, you’ll learn everything you need to know in theory. Stefanie Etter shows you all the materials and demonstrates the techniques on her own Arctic Ocean artwork. So you’ll immediately see what she means when she explains: This is how the texture materials crack. This is what you can do with sprays. This is why resin and pigments are also important for your composition. This is what encaustic wax allows you to create (spoiler: effects like ice crystals).

This way, you’ll work your way stage by stage towards your Arctic Ocean. And you’ll see how an artwork like this can take shape in your own hands. An artwork as frosty and beautiful as the real Arctic Ocean.

We think it’s cool. Do you?

What you’ll learn in the Arctic Voyage self-paced video course – the practical part

• Working in stages: because everything needs time to dry or cure in between.
• Creating ice floes: This is how you work with the texture materials resiCRETE and XL CRACKLE PASTE. This is how they differ. And this is how you can give them an ice-cold colour.
• Sprays for Arctic Ocean colours: When spraying, the right spraying technique matters too.
• Drying time: Not really working time. But perhaps it is – especially if your artwork has been dried with too much heat. Learn how to deal with this.
• Resin for the Arctic Ocean: First come the basics. Measuring, mixing, colouring, pouring and spreading. Then the extras: different levels of opacity and their effects, as well as resin stripes.
• Drying time: The second drying period is the curing time for the resin. A little work for you: keep an eye on your resin surface for any foreign particles.
• Finished: or maybe not? No, of course not. You want a real Arctic Ocean, don’t you?
• Arctic Ocean effect with encaustic wax: Things heat up here first, even if that might sound a little strange right now. After watching the video, you’ll know exactly what that means.
• Finished? Yes!

How are we doing as your tour guides? We hope: very well! Then come with us to the Arctic Ocean. We promise: it’ll only look icy. You’ll be burning with enthusiasm.
